Zahid lodges police report over claim of ‘more criminal charges’

KUALA LUMPUR: The defence in Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s corruption trial today said it has lodged a police report over allegations of “more criminal charges to be filed” against the former deputy prime minister.

Lawyer Hisyam Teh Poh Teik told the High Court this before the start of Zahid’s hearing this morning.

“We want to bring to the court’s attention this viral message last weekend over a purported decision from PPBM. We took issue with item number six on the message that claimed more charges will be filed against our client.

“However, the party’s secretary-general (Hamzah Zainudin) has come out to deny the allegations and that they will also lodge their police report,” he said.

The message also alleged that senior minister Mohamed Azmin Ali will be appointed as deputy prime minister “in preparation for a general election”.

Hisyam, however, said the defence had confidence in trial judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah, who is hearing the current 47 charges against Zahid. — Free Malaysia Today
