Works, health ministries to set up panel to tackle delayed health facilities

KUALA LUMPUR: A joint task force of the works and the health ministries will be set up to facilitate the completion of delayed health facility projects nationwide.

Senior works minister Fadillah Yusof said that although the number of uncompleted projects under the health ministry was small, his ministry took the matter seriously as these were important facilities for the people.

“The secretaries-general of both ministries will decide on an approach, and look at these projects, why they are delayed or cannot be completed.

“We want to ensure that developments in the health sector can be handled and planned better,” he told reporters at the presentation of tender acceptance letters at his ministry here today.

Also present was health minister Khairy Jamaluddin, who received a tender acceptance letter on behalf of the ministry for the construction of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), one of five letters handed over to contractors today.

The four other projects are the Muar-Tangkak-Segamat road upgrade in Johor; a link road between Kampung Guntur to Langkap, Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan; a disaster simulation site for the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) at SMART Headquarters, Pulau Meranti, Selangor; and a new school with 24 classrooms at SMK Gong Nangka, Marang, Terengganu.

Fadillah reminded the contractors involved to be committed to completing the projects according to the time, budget and quality standards set. — Free Malaysia Today
