KUALA LUMPUR: A woman who courted controversy during a stand-up comedy performance pleaded not guilty in the sessions court here today to a charge of insulting Islam.
Siti Nuramira Abdullah was charged under Section 298A of the Penal Code with causing disharmony among the Muslim community during her performance at the Crackhouse Comedy Club in Taman Tun Dr Ismail on June 4.
If found guilty, she could be jailed for three to five years.
Siti Nuramira was arrested by Bukit Aman federal police last Sunday and had been remanded since then.
A 54-second video, which went viral on social media, showed a woman introducing herself as a Muslim.
She claimed to have memorised 15 chapters of the Quran, and then proceeded to discard her tudung and baju kurung, revealing skimpy clothes underneath. — Free Malaysia Today
