We’re on rough seas, we’ll swim or sink together, Hadi tells opposition

PETALING JAYA: The new Cabinet must have an open mind and accept the participation of all quarters to hasten the process of rebuilding the nation, says PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

He urged the government and opposition to make the fight against Covid-19 a joint battle to come out safely from the pandemic, which is threatening all Malaysians irrespective of their background.

“Let’s be on this ship together while sailing on the current rough and violent seas. If we survive, we all will be safe and if we drown, all of us will perish.

“Covid-19 does not identify victims by their political leanings. Although we may be supporters of the opposition, government or silent fence-sitters, we are all together,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Hadi said the government must accept all constructive criticisms and do self-reflection to evaluate weaknesses that are highlighted.

He said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s meeting with the top three leaders of Pakatan Harapan (PH) was a welcome move.

“Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has also pledged to make the Umno leader’s administration easier following their meeting on Aug 25 in Putrajaya.

“The offer to the opposition was finally accepted although parts of it were withdrawn. This action is a very responsible one as it gives priority to the rakyat instead of politicians,” he said.

Hadi said this is a positive move which would give the new Cabinet and the government machinery the confidence to continue managing the pandemic without being distracted by the disruptive actions of PH “which is waiting impatiently for the next general election”.

“The opposition should play an advisory role and not threaten to disrupt efforts to save the people and the nation,” he said. — Free Malaysia Today
