PUTATAN: Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor has shot down talk of a shift in power and a viral claim that Warisan president Shafie Apdal will once again return as chief minister.
He said the claims were just political propaganda carried out by irresponsible parties.
He said the rumour was played by certain quarters to confuse the rakyat and disrupt the stability and unity among the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah component parties.
“The government right now is very stable, and we have a strong understanding between us. We were given the mandate to rule. Our focus now is to develop Sabah, so I am not paying too much attention to this,” he said.
Hajiji was speaking to reporters after handing over aid to families affected by a fire in Kampung Meruntum.
Further, he added that the rumour was no longer an issue as Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) secretary-general Joniston Bangkuai had denied it yesterday, saying it was just “idle chatter”.
Apart from Joniston, Pitas assemblyman Ruddy Awah also denied the rumour.
Yesterday, a message spread via WhatsApp claiming that Warisan would form a new government with PBS, PKR, Upko and three independent candidates who won in the last general election.
Recently, Shafie disclosed that his party would like to work with PBS if given the chance.
In response, PBS president Maximus Ongkili welcomed the Warisan president’s gesture, saying PBS was always open to political cooperation for the sake of Sabahans. — Free Malaysia Today
