Speak up on allegations against Hamzah, Patriot tells PM

PETALING JAYA: The National Patriots Association (Patriot) has urged the prime minister to speak up on claims that home minister Hamzah Zainudin had been interfering in police matters.

Patriot president Brig-Gen (Rtd) Mohamed Arshad Raji said former inspector-general of police (IGP) Abdul Hamid Bador’s revelations on Hamzah could not be taken lightly.

“Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin cannot remain mute on these serious allegations against the home minister,” he said in a statement, adding that Muhyiddin must take immediate action.

Arshad also joined in on calls for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to investigate Hamid’s allegations against Hamzah.

“The allegations of the former IGP show there are elements of power abuse. If true, the home minister has overstepped his statutory bounds. An even more serious allegation, the attempt to use the Special Branch for his own political purpose, is really sickening.”

Last Friday, Hamid claimed that Hamzah was “pushing to get power” to determine where certain police officers should be placed.

Yesterday, he also claimed that Hamzah had attempted to instal a new Special Branch director for the political purpose of gaining better control over the division.

Arshad said if these claims were true, it showed that “we have senior civil servants not fit to occupy high positions” as they lacked integrity.
