Second booster not compulsory for seniors, says KJ

KUALA LUMPUR: High-risk senior citizens will not be forced to take a second booster shot, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said today.

“This is a choice, the ministry of health can only recommend (taking a second booster shot),” he said today in an online video clip. “Don’t say I am forcing them… I just want to ensure our senior citizens get the best protection, especially when they all ‘balik kampung’ later.”

Khairy said the ministry had also started using the antiviral drug Paxlovid as a therapeutic to treat high-risk Covid-19 patients.

He said the drug was for treatment and not as a substitute vaccine.
