KOTA KINABALU: Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor has urged that the proposed border checkpoints at Kalabakan and Pagalongan be made a main priority and not be delayed.
He said today he had ordered Sedia, the state economic development agency responsible for border town development, to continue pursuing the matter following reports that the Kalabakan project had to be delayed for lack of federal funds.
Hajiji, who is chairman of Sedia, said the Kalabakan customs, immigration, quarantine and security (CIQS) centre would cost RM215 million, and an additional RM600 million for the construction of 39km of roads.
Hajiji said Sedia would carry out 30 initiatives as a catalyst for balanced economic growth.
Hajiji said that Sedia had received RM74 million from a total of RM187 million allocated for seven projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan, which includes the expansion of the Sepanggar Bay container port. — Free Malaysia Today
