PETALING JAYA: Umno’s application to amend its party constitution will be decided by July 16, said the Registrar of Societies (RoS).

Bernama said it was informed of this in an email today.

With the amendment, Umno may postpone its party polls by up to six months after a general election or up to 18 months from the end of its leadership’s term, whichever comes later.

Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan previously warned that failure to pass the amendment could lead to disunity in the party ahead of the general election, which must be held by mid-September 2023.

Umno’s elections for the 2021-2023 term were due on June 30 last year, but were postponed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It must be held before Dec 30 this year. — Free Malaysia Today
