Resignation of Muhyiddin, Cabinet did not incur extra costs, says govt

PETALING JAYA: No additional financial costs were incurred following the resignation of former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his Cabinet, the government says.

In a written parliamentary reply to Hannah Yeoh (PH-Segambut), special functions minister Abdul Latiff Ahmad said the appointment of their replacements also did not come with additional costs as there were no new ministries or portfolios.

“There were no additional financial implications as a result of the resignation of the 8th prime minister and his Cabinet, as well as the new appointments,” the minister in the Prime Minister’s Department said.

“All expenditures were in line with the allocations for the year 2021, as approved in the previous year.”

Yeoh had asked Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to state the amount the government had to spend following the resignation of Muhyiddin and his Cabinet as well as the costs that came with the new appointments.

Muhyiddin resigned from the top post on Aug 16 after several Umno MPs withdrew their support for the Bersatu president.

Ismail, who succeeded him, was sworn in on Aug 21. — Free Malaysia Today
