Record 2,236 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore

PETALING JAYA: Singapore reported a record 2,236 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, surpassing the 2,000 mark for the first time.

Its ministry of health also reported five more deaths, bringing the toll to 85, according to The Straits Times.

The daily reported that yesterday’s cases were an increase of 589 over Monday’s figure. The total number of cases in the island republic now stands at 91,775.

It said the new cases included 1,711 in the community and 515 among dormitory residents, with the rest being imported.

Among the local cases were 483 above the age of 60.

The report said the five new deaths comprised four Singaporean men aged between 69 and 79, and a 77-year-old Singaporean woman.

Two of them were unvaccinated, while one was partially vaccinated. The other two were fully vaccinated.

All had underlying medical conditions, it quoted the ministry as saying, without giving details of these conditions in its statement.

It was the ninth consecutive day that deaths from Covid-19 were reported. — Free Malaysia Today
