KUALA LUMPUR: Umno’s Puad Zarkashi has failed in his bid to set aside an injunction against him in a defamation lawsuit by former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
Puad, an Umno Supreme Council member, is being sued by Muhyiddin over a Facebook post which the latter claims had implied he refused to undergo a 10-day quarantine upon returning from an official visit to Indonesia on Feb 5.about:blank
The Prime Minister’s Office had said then that Muhyiddin was required to undergo home quarantine, including having to wear the Covid-19 quarantine wristband.
Subsequently, Muhyiddin took legal action against Puad and secured a temporary injunction for the removal of Puad’s Facebook post.
Today, High Court judge Mohd Firuz Jaffril dismissed Puad’s application to set aside the injunction, saying the court did not agree with his submissions.
“Having said that, all is not lost for the defendant. If he succeeds at the end of the trial, the court can make a determination on that,” he said.
Muhyiddin is seeking general, exemplary and aggravated damages from Puad.
He is represented by lawyers DP Naban and Rosli Dahlan while Rajasingam Gothandapani and Shahrul Fazli Kamarulzaman are appearing for Puad.
Shahrul said the suit had been fixed for case management on Dec 9 before a new judge, Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz, as Firuz is scheduled to be transferred to the Shah Alam High Court. — Free Malaysia Today
