PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be meeting business leaders in a bid to seek their cooperation and boost the economy.

In a post on his Facebook page, Ismail said he was confident that “political stability and the increasing and widespread vaccination rate” will be the catalyst for the country to achieve a faster rate of economic growth.

“In line with this development, I will hold meetings soon with representatives from the industrial sector, chambers of commerce and also youth entrepreneurs to seek their cooperation in the government’s efforts to revive the country’s economy,” he said.

Stressing that one of the government’s main objectives was to get the economy back on track after being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, Ismail said he was encouraged by the growth in the stock market.

Attached to his post was a graph of the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI from this morning which showed a 6.81 point increase at the start of trading and a 4.7% rise from the same date a year ago.

Data released by the statistics department earlier this month showed the economy slid 2% quarter-on-quarter and 16.1% year-on-year because of Covid-19 movement restrictions. — Free Malaysia Today
