PKR polls will provide ‘spurt’ for positive change, says Anwar

GEORGE TOWN: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim today described the outcome of the party elections as positive and one that is needed to bring about change, especially at the top leadership.

“I see the election of the new leadership as a positive one, with a clear message about a new spurt needed to bring positive change.

“As a people-based party, there must be a spirit to accommodate all strengths. We have not gone astray from this principle,” he said in a video on his Facebook page.

Anwar said PKR was daring enough to conduct a forensic audit of its party elections, unlike other parties.

He said the election committee was also taking complaints about the polls seriously, even gripes that were “unreasonable”.

He said PKR had told the audit firm to step its work and given till June 20 to complete its report so the party could move on with its congress on July 15.

“When talking about transparency and integrity, we take lessons from other parties’ deceptions and are not afraid to be audited,” he said.

The PKR national congress has been postponed to July 15 to 17, pending the results of the forensic audit. It was initially scheduled to be held from June 24 to 26.

The audit was initiated following multiple claims of “missing” votes and disputes over the results for various party posts. — Free Malaysia Today
