PKR KK Branch visited a charity home, Rumah Bakti Harapan

KOTA KINABALU, May 30: PKR Kota Kinabalu Branch visited Rumah Bakti Harapan, a charity home, and donated foodstuff and groceries on Monday.

Political Secretary Vivien Lee represented the Branch Chief Datuk Christina Liew in handing over the donations to the Founder cum Manager of the Home, Ginantar Balud.

Also present were the Home’s Secretary Angela Joseph, PKR Kota Kinabalu Branch’s Honorary Secretary Helen Muhammari and Committee Member Chan Jun Git.

Presently, the Home, which was registered in 2003, provides shelter to 10 orphans and disabled persons aged above 20 years.

Sharing the challenges faced in running the rented Home, Ginantar said he could not take in anymore residents due to its limited space.

“Actually, we are supposed to move out but the landlady is kind enough to allow us to stay on until our proposed new premises is ready. Earlier this year, we bought a piece of land in Tuaran for the purpose of building a new shelter but our plan is hampered by lack of funds,” he said.

In seeking help from the Government, Ginantar appealed to Liew for assistance as the new building is estimated to cost about RM550,000. “Apart from accommodating the residents, the two main blocks will also incorporate an office, a multi-purpose hall and a unit for senior citizens,” he said.
