Perak MB seeks audience with ruler on state assembly dissolution

PETALING JAYA: Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad will be meeting Sultan Nazrin Shah tomorrow to seek his consent to dissolve the state legislative assembly and make way for elections.

“I will request an audience with His Royal Highness for tomorrow,” said Saarani, who is also the Kota Tampan assemblyman, according to Berita Harian.

Perak is one of the five states led by Barisan Nasional (BN). The others are Perlis and Pahang, which are also said to be seeking dissolution of their state assemblies, and Johor and Melaka, which held their state elections recently.

Sabah is led by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah, which comprises BN, Perikatan Nasional and PBS.

Meanwhile, Pahang menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said he had yet to get a date for an audience with the Regent, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Sultan Abdullah, on the status of the state assembly.

“I have yet to get the date,” Bernama quoted him as saying when asked whether the state assembly would be dissolved for elections to be held simultaneously with GE15.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the dissolution of Parliament, paving the way for elections within 60 days.

Ismail also urged state governments to dissolve their legislative assemblies, with the exception of Sabah, Sarawak, Melaka and Johor.

So far, only BN-led states have confirmed that they will dissolve their state assemblies.

States led by Pakatan Harapan and PAS are still mulling over the matter, though they previously expressed their intention to only dissolve their legislative assemblies next year. — Free Malaysia Today
