Perak MB announces portfolios of exco members

PETALING JAYA: Newly-minted Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad has announced the portfolios of his new unity state executive council which comprises seven Pakatan Harapan assemblymen and three from Barisan Nasional.

Saarani, the Kota Tampan assemblyman, will be in charge of Islamic affairs, finance, security, land, natural resources, economic development and government-linked corporations (GLCs), Astro Awani reported.

The three BN assemblymen in the unity government are Lintang assemblyman Zolkafly Harun, Temengor assemblyman Salbiah Mohamed and Belanja assemblyman Khairuddin Abu Hanapiah.

Zolkafly is in charge of the rural development, commodities, agriculture and food industries committee, while Salbiah heads the women and family development, community welfare and entrepreneurship development committee.

Khairuddin heads the education, higher education, youth and sports committee.

Saarani said the lineup consisted of both young and experienced leaders as some were part of the state’s administration before.

“All the executive councillors of the Perak state government have participated in their first meeting to discuss and decide on several important matters,” Astro Awani quoted him as saying.

Among the matters discussed was the first sitting of the 15th Perak state legislative assembly which would take place on Dec 19 for the tabling of the state’s budget for 2023.

On Tuesday, 10 assemblymen from both BN and PH took their oath as executive councillors in front of Sultan Nazrin Shah at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar. — Free Malaysia Today
