No DPM agreement between PM and PN, says Hadi

PETALING JAYA: PAS has denied a Bersatu leader’s claims that there is a formal agreement between Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Perikatan Nasional (PN) over the deputy prime minister’s post.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang admitted that there were discussions on the post when Ismail first took over as prime minister but reiterated that there was no official agreement.

“We did discuss (the deputy prime minister’s post) but there was no decision,” he said at a press conference.

Hadi was asked to comment on Bersatu information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan’s claim that the party’s demand for the post was part of the agreement for PN to support Ismail as the prime minister before his appointment last August.

Wan Saiful also claimed that the terms of the agreement were accepted by Ismail and PN.

Last Saturday, PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said his recent meeting with Ismail was to discuss political appointments, including the deputy prime minister’s post, as was previously agreed when PN decided to support Ismail’s government.

Muhyiddin also said the appointment of a deputy prime minister was part of an agreement between PN and Ismail.

Former prime minister Najib Razak then slammed Muhyiddin for having misplaced priorities in raising the matter at a time when Malaysians were struggling with the rising cost of living. — Free Malaysia Today
