PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki has added to the growing calls within the party for a general election to be held as soon as possible.

Stating that the numerous changes in government since the last general election have ruined the country’s political stability and stifled economic growth, he told the Umno Youth assembly today the country has “no choice” but to return the mandate to the rakyat.

“The fact is that this coalition government is very much dependent on the goodwill of the opposition.

“If someone defects, the government will surely be destroyed. Many of them have a history of party jumping. How can investors have confidence and trust in the government?

“What guarantee do we have that the government will not change for the fourth time?

“We have no choice but to return the mandate to the people for them to decide. There is no longer any reason for us to deny the rakyat their right to stability,” he said, noting how the recent state elections in Sarawak, Melaka and Johor were held safely.

This comes after Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan called last night for GE15 to be held as soon as possible this year.

Highlighting how the opposition lost many seats at the recent state elections in Melaka, Sarawak and Johor, Mohamad said the timing was right because the opposition was “very weak” and divided.
