SABAK BERNAM: PAS Dewan Ulamak chief, Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh today confirmed that he has been appointed the new secretary of the PAS Syura Council, effective Feb 20.
Zawawi, who is also deputy agriculture and food industries minister, said his appointment took effect after the PAS Syura Council meeting on Sunday night following the resignation of Khairuddin Aman Razali the same day.
“Yes, it (new appointment) is true. I have been a member (of the council) but I was unanimously appointed (as its secretary) when Khairuddin resigned.
“Khairuddin resigned with honour and the council discussed whether to reappoint me as (secretary). Previously, I held the secretary’s post for over 10 years.”
He said this when asked by reporters on the appointment after visiting the Sekinchan Large-Scale Smart Padi Field (Smart SSB) Programme, here, today.
It was reported yesterday that Khairuddin, who is also Kuala Nerus MP, announced his resignation as secretary and PAS Syura Council member in accordance with Clause 8 (7) of the party’s constitution. — Free Malaysia Today
