PETALING JAYA: New Wanita PKR chief Fadhlina Sidek has called for party unity in preparation for the general election after she was declared the winner following an audit of the party election results.

“The time has come for us to strengthen the party’s ranks and frontliners in order to face and win the general election which will take place soon,” she said in a statement to FMT.

She paid tribute to her rival in the contest, Batu Tiga assemblyman Rodziah Ismail who she said had taught her to defend the women’s wing.

Fadhlina was declared the winner by a slim margin of 32 votes in the contest for the Wanita leadership. She polled 18,923 votes to Rodziah’s 18,891.

Rodziah had been leading in the unofficial results.

Fadhlina thanked party members who voted for her, and said she was committed to upholding the party’s challenge of reformation and furthering the role of women. — Free Malaysia Today
