New quarantine exemption rule for those entering country

PETALING JAYA: Fully vaccinated individuals who were recently infected by Covid-19 need not undergo quarantine when entering Malaysia, the health ministry said.

Health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said these travellers must have printed or digital laboratory reports that prove they were infected with the virus within 11 to 60 days prior to their arrival.

Meanwhile, travellers with a history of getting admitted to hospital for Covid-19 will need to furnish a “fit for travel” letter from the hospital.

Those who were treated for Covid-19 at home or in an isolation centre will have to undergo a professional RTK-Ag (antigen) test two days before flying to Malaysia and test negative.

“However, those who have yet to be fully vaccinated will be required to undergo mandatory quarantine for seven days at a designated quarantine centre,” he said in a statement today.

The new ruling comes into effect tomorrow.

The existing quarantine rules will continue to apply to vaccinated travellers who have not been infected with Covid-19, Khairy said.

He added that the new ruling was based on scientific evidence and the latest developments in other countries in managing travellers who have been infected.

Travellers must also download the MySejahtera application and fill a health declaration form, undergo health screenings and another RTK-Ag test upon arrival at any international entry point.

“The health ministry also advises individuals who are eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine to get a booster dose to achieve an optimum level of protection and avoid severe Covid-19 symptoms and complications,” he said. — Free Malaysia Today
