PETALING JAYA: The number of new Covid-19 cases dropped from 29,886 to 28,339 – or 5.2% – last week from the week before, said health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

In his update for the week ending July 30, Noor Hisham said the number admitted to public hospitals and quarantine centres remained unchanged.

However, the number of hospital admissions rose by 2.8% per population of 100,000 compared with the preceding week.

Overall bed occupancy for non-critical and intensive care unit beds remained unchanged at 23% and 14%, respectively.

Active cases rose during the week by 3.6% to 47,176.

“Recoveries rose by 35.4% from 22,757 to 30,823,” Noor Hisham said.

“The number of deaths decreased by 28.6% from 63 to 49, bringing the cumulative figure for fatalities to 35,960.”

He said 4,677,270 Covid-19 cases had been recorded in the country since January 2020. — Free Malaysia Today
