PETALING JAYA: Hospitals in the southern part of Peninsular Malaysia and also Sarawak have been reporting an increase in Category 3, 4 and 5 Covid-19 cases since the ban on interstate and inter-district travel was lifted, health minister Khairy Jamaluddin said.
“This is especially so in Negeri Sembilan as seen in epidemiological week-41,” he said in a press conference this evening.
Earlier today, Khairy said the Klang Valley has seen a 22% increase in hospital admissions over the last seven days.
Sarawak meanwhile saw an 16% increase in cases.
However, Khairy said that generally, hospital admissions for all categories including ICU admissions and cases needing ventilators are decreasing by the week, nationwide.
“We have also started to decrease the number of beds dedicated to treat Covid-19 cases in phases.”
However, states such as Sarawak, Kelantan and Selangor are still recording over 60% hospital bed usage for both ICU and non-ICU Covid-19 cases. Penang and Perak are still showing hospital bed usage of over 50%.
He added that despite the lower cumulative cases nationwide during epidemiology week-41, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, and Negeri Sembilan recorded an increase in cases by 7.8%, 3.3% and 4.1% respectively, when compared to epidemiology week-40.
Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Perlis also recorded a higher seven-day average incidence rate compared to the previous week, by 13.9%, 9.4% and 2.7% respectively.
Meanwhile, a total of 593 deaths due to Covid-19 were reported for week-41 with an average of 85 deaths a day. Khairy said this was 15.3% reduction of compared to week-40. — Free Malaysia Today
