Minister happy with Thaipusam SOP compliance by the public

KUALA LUMPUR: National unity minister Halimah Sadique is satisfied with the level of compliance by the public on the SOPs for the Thaipusam celebration this year.

She also praised efforts by the management committees of temples, including the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Batu Caves and the volunteers for their ability to control the situation during the celebration.

“Despite the strict SOPs, the temple management was able to ensure the wellbeing of Hindus who came to fulfill their vows,” she said in her speech after inspecting the situation in Batu Caves today.

She also congratulated the police for making sure the Hindu devotees could perform their religious obligations smoothly.

Some groups had protested against the SOPs which they said were too strict and released at the last minute, affecting those who started preparing for the festival much earlier.

Meanwhile, human resources minister M Saravanan said a hall would be built at the Sri Subramaniar Temple in Batu Caves for the benefit of the Indian community in the area, adding that the project would be implemented this year. — Free Malaysia Today
