MIC man alleged to have undone his trousers before NGO woman

PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating allegations of sexual harassment involving a Sungai Siput MIC member towards a woman who is the secretary of an NGO.

Sungai Siput district police chief Mohd Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin confirmed police had received a report regarding the incident on Nov 25.

He said the woman claimed that an MIC member had directed rude words her way and undid his trousers when she visited a residential area in Sungai Siput to look into a clogged drain problem.

However, Sungai Siput MIC chairman K Manimaran, denying the allegations, said: “The woman deliberately made false allegations to get sympathy from residents in the area. I was there when the incident happened, and I strongly deny that any sexual harassment was committed by our members.”

Mohd Khaizam said an investigation is being carried out and the investigation papers would be sent to the deputy public prosecutor’s office in the near future, according to Malaysiakini.

In the police report, the woman said members of her NGO and her, with officials from the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council visited the housing estate after receiving complaints about clogged drains.

She said she was stopped by several MIC members who had gathered at the scene and claimed they were trying to resolve the drain issue, warning the NGO not to intervene.

According to the police report, the NGO team did not relent and the situation became tense when an MIC member used abusive language and undid his pants in front of the woman.

Manimaran said MIC would lodge a police report tomorrow about the allegations and had discussed taking legal action against the woman. — Free Malaysia Today
