PETALING JAYA: Any decision by Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) to work with other parties in the Melaka state election will be finalised after both the party and coalition Supreme Councils have discussed the matter.

This was revealed by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who added that it will be done before nomination day on Nov 8, Astro Awani reported.

“We have not officially decided on who Umno and BN will work with. We will announce our decision after the Umno political bureau and the Umno Supreme Council meetings.

“The final decision will then be made at the BN Supreme Council meeting, which will be held next week or any time before nomination day,” he told reporters at a press conference in Melaka today.

Zahid, who is also BN chairman, said Umno was always open-minded about accepting the views of other parties before making a decision.

“Anyone who wants to give their views is welcome. However, we will make all decisions collectively when the time comes. So, there should be no speculation on Umno and BN’s stand in the Melaka state election,” he added.

Zahid also said Umno’s current focus for the election would be based on a candidate’s winning record based on data in the past two general elections. — Free Malaysia Today
