MCA, PBRS confirm BN never supported decision to appeal to King

PETALING JAYA: MCA has confirmed a claim by MIC, its ally in Barisan Nasional, that the coalition never supported any decision to appeal to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to order a Parliament sitting as soon as possible.

“I confirm what Vigneswaran said is correct,” MCA president Wee Ka Siong told FMT, referring to his MIC counterpart, S Vigneswaran.

Wee was asked to comment on a report by Malaysiakini, which quoted Vigneswaran as expressing shock over a statement issued by BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday.

Vigneswaran said the BN meeting that took place on Wednesday decided that they would not make an assumption on the King’s decree about Parliament reconvening.

“The BN meeting had never supported any decision to make an appeal to the Agong to order a Parliament sitting to be conducted as soon as possible,” he was quoted by Malaysiakini as saying.

PBRS deputy president Arthur Joseph Kurup, who was present at the meeting, also confirmed it.

“The BN Supreme Council did not agree to the press statement that was released by Datuk Seri Zahid,” he said in a text message.

Arthur had represented his father, PBRS president Joseph Kurup, at the meeting.

In his statement last night, Zahid pleaded with the King to use his discretionary powers under the Emergency Ordinance to call for a Parliament sitting immediately to address several issues. — Free Malaysia Today
