PETALING JAYA: The Attorney-General’s Chambers has given permission to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to prosecute one of its own officers and an accomplice for bribery.
The MACC officer in question, Shahrul Izuan Mohd Zin, 41, has been accused of aiding Teoh Peng Sin, 55, to accept a cash bribe amounting to RM100,000 as an inducement not to investigate an individual under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
In a statement, MACC said the pair were arrested on April 14 and the charges were read before Shah Alam sessions court judge Rozilah Salleh.
The anti-graft agency added that the officer involved had previously been detained by police over a separate and unrelated investigation under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
