KUALA LUMPUR: Landmarks Bhd said The Andaman, a resort owned by the company in Langkawi, Kedah, has stopped its operations due to a major fire incident.

“The Andaman’s operation for safety reasons and ascertainment for reinstatement of the fire damage will be ceased for the time being,” the company said in a filing with Bursa Malaysia today.

The company said all guests and staff have been evacuated safely.

Earlier today, The Star reported that a major fire incident had broke out at the The Andaman on Tuesday night and was brought under control as at 1pm today.

“The financial impact of the fire has yet to be fully ascertained,” Landmarks added.

Landmarks said any property and financial losses arising from this incident are covered by insurance policies taken up by the company.

“The Board has immediately formed a committee to evaluate a rebuilding and repositioning plan for The Andaman. The committee will include renowned designer Mr. Jean-Michel Gathy in advising the Company on repositioning of The Andaman and its rebuilding plan,” it said.
