King grants virtual audience to Sarawak govt leaders

PETALING JAYA: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has granted a virtual audience to leaders from Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), the ruling coalition in the state.

Bernama reported that the King will be meeting the presidents of the GPS component parties via videoconferencing on June 14.

Previously, Sarawak chief minister Abang Johari Openg said he was seeking an audience with the King over the dissolution of the state assembly during the emergency.

However, the King informed the state government that it had the power to continue functioning during the emergency as allowed by him through the emergency declaration, which is effective from Jan 11 to Aug 1.

The meeting with GPS leaders will follow that of political leaders in the peninsula over the next two days. The King granted an audience to opposition leader and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim this morning, with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Pejuang founder Dr Mahathir Mohamad next in line.

Also reportedly scheduled next week is an emergency meeting between the Conference of Rulers, said to be over the Covid-19 crisis. — Free Malaysia Today
