PETALING JAYA: Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun has dismissed fears about DAP being in the government, stating that Islam has continued to develop in the state despite the presence of 11 DAP assemblymen in the legislative assembly.
Campaigning in Taman Selasih, Padang Serai, for Pakatan Harapan’s candidate for the Padang Serai parliamentary election, Aminuddin told voters not to succumb to certain parties’ tactics of using the race and religion card to discredit DAP.
The Negeri Sembilan PH chief said the state continues to build mosques and provide aid to tahfiz schools and their students.
He also said grave diggers at Muslim burial grounds have received a one-off RM1,000 from the state government.
“Of the 36 state seats, PH has 20, and 11 are DAP’s. There are only seven Malay assemblymen, but we have had no issues (with DAP),” he said.
“We respect each other and focus on the needs of the people and the state’s development, not any individual or party. We need everyone’s help to develop our nation, not create fear among one another.
“Dividing (Malaysians) through racial and religious sentiments won’t take us anywhere. It will only destroy us, and we will not be able to correct it in just a few days.”
Aminuddin said the state government has been stable since it was voted in at the 2018 general election, unlike other states like Kedah, Perak, Johor and Sabah.
Lawyer Sofee Razak is defending PH’s hold on the Padang Serai seat against Sivaraj Chandran (Barisan Nasional), Azman Nasrudin (Perikatan Nasional), Hamzah Abdul Rahman (Pejuang) and independent candidate K Sreanandha Rao.
During the same ceramah, Amanah vice-president Mahfuz Omar told PN leaders to think about the consequences of their continued personal attacks on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Noting that Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Md Nor hoped that the state would not be marginalised now that it is in the opposition, Mahfuz said Sanusi and other PAS leaders should have no such fears.
“I’m sure Anwar will not marginalise Kedah or the other states that are in the opposition,” he said.
“But how are they (PN) going to face Anwar now when they want to develop Kedah? When they go to his office, they may even hesitate when exiting the lift.
“Why? Because they are too embarrassed to face the prime minister after previously describing him as someone without morals.” — Free Malaysia Today
