Highway development plan for East Malaysia in the works, says Fadillah

KUALA LUMPUR: The works ministry will embark on a highway network development plan for Sarawak, Sabah and Labuan, said its minister, Fadillah Yusof.

The plan will be launched in 2025.

“A study will be conducted with all stakeholders, from the state governments to the municipal councils, to look into the overall planning.

“From there, a proposed development plan will be created,” he told reporters on the sidelines of an event here today.

Fadillah said the stakeholders should not work in silos but should collaborate to build a resilient and sustainable infrastructure.

He said there was a need to adopt the sustainable development goals (SDG) criteria to reduce the risk of widespread damage to the infrastructure in the event of a natural disaster.

Fadillah also said the ministry had prepared the Road and Highway Development Policy 2030 and the National Infrastructure Maintenance Policy 2030.
