PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob says the government is working on aiding victims of the floods in Baling, Kedah, as soon as possible.
Ismail, who is on an official visit to Turkiye, said he has instructed his political secretary, Mohammad Anuar, to represent him and assist the flood victims.
“I have asked him to survey the situation and ensure that aid is distributed to the victims as soon as possible,” he said in a Facebook post.
Ismail said he has also instructed the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) and other relevant authorities to assist the victims.
He also expressed his condolences to those who lost loved ones in the floods.
Earlier today, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim called for quick action by the government to rescue the flood victims.
He warned Putrajaya against repeating its slow response to the floods in the peninsula in December last year.
The floods that hit several villages in Baling yesterday have left three dead so far. More than 300 villagers have been evacuated to relief centres.
Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Mohd Nor had wanted the affected villages to be declared as Level I or II emergency response areas to speed up aid by state and federal agencies. — Free Malaysia Today
