Govt to abide by Umno’s decision, won’t extend MoU

PUTRAJAYA: The government will follow the Umno Supreme Council’s stand on the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pakatan Harapan and will not extend it beyond July.

However, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob did not dismiss the possibility that some changes could happen before the end of July.

“The decision was made yesterday, that the MoU will last until July 31. So we will wait for July 31, and as of yesterday, the Supreme Council said there is no need to extend the MoU.

“However, let’s wait until July 31,” he told reporters at the sidelines of an event here today. “The government will follow the Supreme Council’s decision.”

He added that any changes that might happen after July 31 would be discussed with the Umno Supreme Council, saying he was bound by the top leadership’s decision as one of the party’s vice-presidents.

“If there’s nothing, that decision will be implemented. If there are any changes, the Supreme Council will discuss it again.”

When asked if he had met leaders of the opposition bloc over the decision not to extend the MoU, he said it was not yet time for that since July 31 was still far off.

“There’s still a while to go. Let us celebrate Hari Raya first,” he said. — Free Malaysia Today
