KUALA LUMPUR – No household will earn less than the country’s poverty line income of RM2,208 a month if Barisan Nasional (BN) comes into power, the coalition promised as part of its election manifesto.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the new “assistive basic income” scheme will see the government top up the monthly income of all households to at least RM2,208.
The difference in amount will automatically be credited to families with wages less than the stipulated figure.
“This scheme is most fair, reasonable, and strategic. Not only will it address the issue of cost of living, it will also ensure that no household will live below the poverty level.
“In other words, after this, cases of hardcore poverty will be history in Malaysia,” he said when announcing the coalition’s 15th general election manifesto today. – Bernama/The Vibes
