Funds for Selangor opposition reps bumped up to RM400,000

PETALING JAYA: Opposition assemblymen in Selangor will see an increase in their annual allocation for their constituencies.

This will go up from RM150,000 to RM400,000 as part of the state’s 2022 budget.

Coupled with the RM400,000 provided by the federal government to Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional assemblymen, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari said the total allocation of RM800,000 will be equal to what government state assemblymen received.

Amirudin made the announcement during the tabling of Selangor’s 2022 budget in the state assembly yesterday, Malaysiakini reported.

For the Pakatan Harapan assemblymen, the full RM800,000 will be funded by the Selangor government as the BN-led federal government does not provide any allocation to these representatives.

“We have increased the allocation for next year in line with the ‘Kita Selangor’ spirit.”

Amirudin also announced that independents aligned with the government will get an allocation of RM500,000.

“These allocations will not be disbursed directly to the representatives. They will instead be distributed based on applications an assemblyman makes, such as funding for projects in their constituencies or community events.

“The move shows our commitment to the people of Selangor, that they are our priority, regardless of the political affiliation of their representatives.

“We want to make Selangor the role model for Malaysia where this is concerned,” he said.

Amirudin said the Selangor government would also allocate an additional RM50,000 for MPs in the state for the management of their service centres. — Free Malaysia Today
