PETALING JAYA: Former Johor menteri besar Mohamed Khaled Nordin has denied that he is contesting in the upcoming state elections.
Khaled, who is also Umno vice-president and Pasir Gudang division chairman, said he had no intention of contesting as he felt that younger leaders should be given a chance instead.
“No, I will not contest in the Johor elections,” he told Berita Harian today.
He felt that Hasni Mohammad had been doing a good job in leading the state as menteri besar.
“We need to give opportunities and exposure to young leaders to contest. This is my decision,” he said.
On Jan 14, Khaled had shared a picture of him meeting Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar at the Pasir Pelangi Palace, sparking speculation that he would be standing in the elections.
Khaled said his meeting was just to discuss issues regarding the state’s development, including the flood situation.
“The interests of the people need to be prioritised over other matters,” he said. — Free Malaysia Today
