Equal allocations for PH MPs first, says law minister

KUALA LUMPUR: Law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar today said equal allocations will be given to MPs from Pakatan Harapan, which signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government in September.

As for other MPs, he said, he would discuss the matter at the next meeting of the Transformation and Political Stability Committee.

He was replying to a question from Anwar Ibrahim (PH-Port Dickson) in the Dewan Rakyat on equal allocations for all MPs.

Anwar said there was still confusion over the MoU signed between PH and the government.

He said the MoU was signed to protect the rights of PH as a check and balance in ensuring the government was responsible and introduced parliamentary reforms.

On the Malaysia Agreement 1963 raised by Anwar, Wan Junaidi said he had met twice with MPs on the issue.

He said there were limited days to discuss bills in the Dewan Rakyat and he had asked for an additional two days to discuss bills that had been tabled for the first reading.

A bill to amend the Federal Constitution to be in line with the provisions of the MA63 was tabled for the first reading in Parliament on Nov 3.

Wan Junaidi had said he would propose to the Dewan Rakyat to schedule the second reading in the current session. — Free Malaysia Today
