Covid-19 cases at Langkawi hotel won’t affect tourism bubble, says Sanusi

ALOR SETAR: The spread of Covid-19 at a leading hotel in Langkawi will not disrupt the tourism bubble project on the island, according to Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

“The cases will not affect the tourism industry in Langkawi because we have taken appropriate action to protect the tourism bubble on the island,” he told a press conference today.

He said the state health department had informed him that the cases involved locals in the hotel workers’ hostel area.

“These aren’t imported cases from foreign tourists, but local cases which spread at the workplace,” he said.

Earlier, Sanusi received a courtesy call from rural development minister Mahdzir Khalid at his office at Wisma Darul Aman here.

Yesterday, the media reported that a leading hotel in Langkawi was ordered to temporarily cease operations after 59 of its employees tested positive for Covid-19.

Kedah health director Dr Othman Warijo referred to the hotel cases as the Dah Teluk Nibung workplace cluster. — Free Malaysia Today
