KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court has fixed Aug 12 to hear the suit by MUDA, the party led by Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, to compel the home ministry to make a decision on its application to be registered as a political party.
The hearing date was set after the case was mentioned today before High Court deputy registrar Firdaus Sidqi Sharil Azli, said MUDA’s lawyer, Lim Wei Jiet.
He said the written submissions need to be filed one week before the scheduled hearing.
MUDA has been allowed to proceed with its legal challenge against home minister Hamzah Zainudin’s inaction in deciding on its application to be registered as a political party.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), appearing for the ministry and the Registrar of Societies (RoS), had said they have no objection against MUDA’s suit.
MUDA is seeking a court order to compel Hamzah to make a decision under Section 18 of the Societies Act.
Earlier this year, RoS rejected MUDA’s application for registration but did not provide specific reasons. The party then filed its appeal to the home minister in February but Hamzah has yet to respond.
RoS has also turned down the application by Pejuang, led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad, for registration.
Pejuang has also filed for a judicial review to compel Hamzah to make a decision on its registration, and the court will rule on the case on June 23. — Free Malaysia Today
