Cops probe Perak DAP convention over CMCO violations

IPOH: Police have opened an investigation into the commotion that took place at the Perak DAP convention held at the Ipoh International Convention Center (IICC) last Sunday.

Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the case was currently being investigated under Section 22A of the Emergency (Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases) (Amendment) Ordinance 2001.

“The police have summoned the convention’s organisers to get more information.

“It was found that 1,731 people were present and it was less than the maximum 4,500 capacity for the IICC hall,” he said in a statement.Powered by Streamlyn

Mior said police were analysing videos and photos to identify delegates who may have violated Covid-19 rules under the conditional movement control order (CMCO) during the commotion.

“The investigation paper on this case will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.”

Last Sunday, it was reported that a commotion ensued at the Perak DAP triennial elections due to allegations of “phantom voters” being present and sought an explanation from the party’s election committee.

The commotion occurred as soon as DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had finished officiating the convention. — Free Malaysia Today
