PETALING JAYA: A shop selling alcoholic beverages was ordered to close, as it is not considered an essential service during the June 1 to 14 lockdown.
Brickfields police chief Anuar Omar said a man had lodged a police report claiming a shop selling such drinks was allowed to operate with an approval letter from the international trade and industry ministry (Miti).
“Police have ordered the premise to shut immediately,” he said in a statement last night.
Yesterday, a police raid on a shop selling alcoholic beverages in Bangsar had left business groups questioning whether the sale of such drinks was now banned.
Confirming the raid, Anuar told FMT that as per the National Security Council’s (MKN) SOPs, “all shops selling alcohol are to close immediately, like the Carlsberg factory”.
He said selling alcohol was not considered an essential service. “There is no need to sensationalise this as this is a government order to help stem the spread of Covid-19.”
Anuar advised traders not to misuse the Miti approval letter.
