Chin Tong to stand in Kit Siang’s old seat

JOHOR BAHRU: Fatin Zulaikha Zaidi has been named by DAP to contest the Mersing parliamentary seat, while Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong will stand in Iskandar Puteri, the seat last held by party veteran Lim Kit Siang.

Fatin Zulaikha, 29, a Johor Bahru native, is the third Malay woman fielded by DAP in a parliamentary seat at the coming general election. The others are Young Syefura Othman (Bentong) and Syerleena Abdul Rashid (Bukit Bendera).

DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook announced the party’s Johor parliamentary candidates in Skudai tonight. He confirmed that the party will contest seven parliamentary seats in Johor, and field four men and three women candidates.

Fatin Zulaikha was a special officer to Johor Raya assemblyman Liow Cai Tung since 2018.

Liew, who is also Perling assemblyman, is making an attempt to return to Parliament after a narrow defeat by 303 votes in Ayer Hitam in the 2018 general election.

Loke said Teo Nie Ching and Wong Shu Qi will defend their seats in Kulai and Kluang respectively.

DAP had previously announced that former Paloh assemblyman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali would stand in Ayer Hitam, former Skudai assemblyman Tan Hong Pin would contest Bakri, while Pang Hok Liong would defend Labis. — Free Malaysia Today
