Call for special Parliament sitting on Azam, PH tells Ismail

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob should call for a special Parliament sitting to address the role of Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Azam Baki in the purchase of publicly traded stocks, says Pakatan Harapan (PH).

The PH presidential council also called for Azam and Anti-Corruption Advisory Board chairman Abu Zahar Ujang to be investigated by an independent body.

It said the duo should be rested while an investigation was underway to determine if they had failed to carry out their duties in accordance with the law.

“The presidential council is of the view that the prime minister can no longer stay silent. As the leader of the House, he must call for a special Parliament sitting to explain the truth behind Azam’s shareholdings,” it said in a statement.

“He (Ismail) must also explain how the MACC’s management and administration have been damaged to the point that there are such cases which have ruined its image.”

The statement was signed by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Upko president Wilfred Madius Tangau. — Free Malaysia Today
