BN all set to implement manifesto, says Hasni

JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chief Hasni Mohammad said the coalition will not waste any time in implementing its manifesto should it form the next Johor government.

Hasni, who is BN’s menteri besar candidate, said the coalition had all its plans in order to carry out the pledges in its manifesto, themed “Stability for the Future”.

“We are not going to waste the people’s time by sitting in meeting rooms and discussing who will do what. Everything is ready.

“The minute BN is given the mandate and we form the government, the people will see how the whole administration will be mobilised immediately,” he said in a press conference after launching the manifesto today.

Hasni, who is also caretaker menteri besar, said among the political reforms laid out in the manifesto were tabling an anti-hopping enactment in the state assembly.

This, he said, would be the first thing on the agenda if BN was given the mandate to helm the state government.

On the pledge to conduct redelineation of constituencies with a high number of voters, he pointed out that there were some areas that had over a hundred thousand eligible voters.

He said it was impossible for elected representatives to serve the people well in such cases, which was why BN was ready to conduct a redelineation exercise.

“We must consider this matter so that elected representatives can serve the community well.”

He said BN wanted to ensure equal allocations for all assemblymen, including those from the opposition, who were a key part of the administration in serving as a check-and-balance on the state government.

“There’s no point having opposition members who are yes men. Opposition members should function as opposition members, as a check and balance whether it’s the state’s annual budget or consultations on state government policies,” he said.

He also pledged that BN would continue pushing for the border with Singapore to reopen fully, or at least in stages. He suggested reopening the borders by sector, like construction and services, pointing out that many Malaysians working in Singapore were in these sectors. — Free Malaysia Today
