PUTRAJAYA: All criminal appeals before the Court of Appeal and Federal Court have been vacated until May 12 after a deputy public prosecutor from the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) here has come down with the Covid-19 virus, sources said.
Other deputy public prosecutors from the AGC’s appellate and trial division, who had come into close contact with the affected person, have also been quarantined.
“The rest of the DPPs from the division have been asked to work from home after going for tests,” the source told FMT.
The source said the division chief Manoj Kurup had on May 1 had emailed chief registrar of the Federal Court Ahmad Terrirudin Mohd Salleh to urge Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat and Court of Appeal president Rohana Yusof to postpone all appeal hearings until next week.
“The two top court administrators have agreed to the request,” a court official told FMT yesterday when asked why all appeals scheduled in both courts had been taken off the list.
It is learnt that appeal hearings would only resume on May 17, after the Hari Raya Puasa holidays.
