PETALING JAYA: Acryl Sani Abdullah has officially taken over the role of inspector-general of police (IGP) today.

The handing-over ceremony was witnessed by deputy home minister Ismail Mohamed Said at Bukit Aman.

The minister, Hamzah Zainudin, was absent but the reason was not known.

Acryl Sani replaces Abdul Hamid Bador, who retires today after two years of serving as the nation’s top cop. Hamid was at the handing-over ceremony.

Acryl Sani, 59, was appointed the deputy IGP last August, replacing Mazlan Mansor, who retired after 41 years of service.

He had previously led the Commercial Crime Investigation Department, the Strategic Resources and Technology Department, and the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department at Bukit Aman. — Free Malaysia Today
