Accept SC’s decision, PM tells opposition

PETALING JAYA: The opposition should accept the decision by the Securities Commission (SC), which cleared top graft-buster Azam Baki of any wrongdoing in his ownership of corporate shares, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this evening.

“SC has already made their decision. We already said we would leave it to the SC because it involves the purchase of shares.

“So the SC has identified, and today they made a statement saying there is no case against Azam Baki. So, let’s just accept the decision,” he told reporters after launching an agro-commodity event in Kuala Lumpur this evening.

He added that the opposition cannot expect investigations to be carried out based on their whims.

“They must accept decisions made by professional bodies like the SC. I think if they have anything to ask on their decision, they can ask the SC.”

“Don’t ask for an investigation, and when they get investigated and the decision has been made, we are still not satisfied,” he said.

The SC today clarified that the “independent evidence” gathered at the inquiry into the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief, showed that Azam is the named account holder and had control of the said trading account.

They added he had operated the account that he had opened, in that he had given instructions to buy, sell and transfer securities from the said account.

Therefore, the SC arrived at the decision that there was no breach of Section 25(4) of the Securities Industry (Central Depositories) Act 1991.

Azam came under fire recently after claiming that he allowed his brother to use his trading account. — Free Malaysia Today
