PETALING JAYA: The health ministry has reported 5,745 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were 8,933 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 2,287,888.

In a statement, Noor Hisham said the total number of infections now stands at 2,401,866.

There were 682 patients in intensive care, 609 of whom were confirmed Covid-19 positive and 73 suspected of being infected.

Meanwhile, 331 patients required respiratory assistance, with 280 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining 51 suspected of being positive.

There were 5,733 local infections today, involving 5,432 Malaysians and 301 foreigners, and 12 imported cases.

Noor Hisham said that of the new infections, only 2% of patients were in Category 3, 4 or 5 at the time of diagnosis.

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate stood at 0.88, with Negeri Sembilan, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur having the highest R-nought level of 1.04, 1.02 and 1.01 respectively.

All other states recorded R-noughts of less than 1.0, while Labuan had an R-nought of zero. — Free Malaysia Today
